Story
My family and friends are taking part in the 2013 Melbourne Marathon Festival and hoping to raise much needed funds for Crohn's & Colitis charity.
This October, we will to be sweating it out and doing our best to complete a grueling 10k course through the streets of Melbourne and ending back at the world famous 'G! We are pumped to be apart of this amazing race and helping a great cause, and we'd really appreciate your support and below is our story........
We are doing this for a special boy named Tom my nephew.
Tom was diagnosed in 2011 only 8 years of age. We knew something wasn't right when he would go to the toilet more than 10 times a day, have chronic stomach pains and cramps that made him cry.
A colonoscopy and gastroscopy diagnosed Crohn's disease in August 2011. He has been on medicine since diagnoses twice a day, which requires monthly blood tests to make sure it isn't harming his liver.
Complications of Crohn's disease are Perianal abscesses which Tom developed last year, he required surgery. He was left with an open wound that took 3 months to heal. Other complications related to Crohn's are fistulas and fissures, these are tracks in the bowel which can then lead to other problems. Tom has also experienced these problems.
His most recent colonoscopy and gastroscopy this year April 2013, showed his Crohn's isn't controlled on his medicines and he has just started a new medicine this May 2013. This requires day admission into hospital, the medicine is intravenous and he needs an IV needle for it to be administered. This needs to be given every 8 weeks, indefinitely or until we find a cure!
After reading this I hope you find $10, $20 or even more to help find a cure for this disease. So help support Team Tommy!

Thank you for your support and helping to make a difference.

Crohn's & Colitis Australia
For more than three decades, Crohn’s & Colitis Australia (CCA) has been empowering the more than 100,000 Australian men, women and children living with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis – collectively known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) – to live fearlessly.
While we invest in research for a cure, CCA continues to advocate for world best treatments and health services for those living with IBD. Through our programs we offer education and support for Australia’s growing Crohn’s and colitis community and raise awareness of the disease. Importantly, our services are offered free of charge.
