Story

I'm taking part in the 2013 Melbourne Marathon Festival and hoping to raise much needed funds for charity.

Not many may be aware but recently my 9 year old cousin was diagnosed with a rare aggresive form of stomach cancer, which has sent a real shock through the extended family. At the age of 9 or grade four equivalent Tate should not be going through weekly hospital check ups and chemotherapy every second weekend, but this is what he is faced with. He is couped up inside hooked to wires, putting up an all mighty fight to beat this horrible disease. So far so good, but by no means in the clear yet, only early days. I just want to put it into perspective and make people aware of the cruel twists that life can throw up.

This has given me motivation and desire to run the Melbourne Marathon and raise money for the Royal Childrens Hospital and to support the wonderful job that goes on within that building. I hope for many of you to never have to experience their services and hospitality, but after visiting over the past two months and realising that not everybody is as fortunate or lucky after seeing all the young children and families in there. If those young brave children can fight for weeks, months and even years, then I'm willing to take on my first marathon and battle the Melbourne city streets for three and a half hours.

Life is too short, and we can never take our health for granted.

I'm asking you all please to be generous and donate even the smallest amount, every dollar counts.

Please share this page and raise awareness for a wonderful charity.

The Royal Children's Hospital Foundation

The Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne is one of the world’s leading children’s hospitals, and has been caring for our most vulnerable children and their families for 150 years.

The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation is responsible for raising and distributing funds to support the work of the hospital. All donated funds are used to bridge the gap between government funding and the world-class standard of healthcare the hospital provides.

Generous community support helps to sustain the hospital’s role as international leader tackling some of the world's biggest paediatric health issues.  Donated funds drive the hospital’s growth, are utilised only for purposes of excellence, and support the most innovative, life-changing programs and initiatives – that would otherwise not exist – in line with the hospital’s priorities across the areas of research, leadership & training, technology & equipment, and patient and family centered care.
